The history of this charming form of pottery stems from the Welsh town of Portmeirion. Susan William Ellis launched the range of Portmeirion Pottery in 1961. Her pottery, noticeable for its decoration, was sold at the ‘Ship Shop,’ a gift store in this coastal town in North Wales. Some say that the quaint village was modelled on the town of Portofino, in Italy. Interestingly, the pottery does not come from Portmeirion. It is made in Stoke-on-Trent, in England.

The Portmeirion Pottery includes a few different ranges including the Magic City, Magic Garden and most famously, the Botanic Garden. Today, the company has a worldwide following with a turnover of tens of millions of dollars (or pounds to be precise).

The Laura Stoddard – Up the Garden Path line is one of the newest collections. It is based on the illustrations by this famous artist, from the book of the same title. Those familiar with her work will instantly recognise the colours and elegant style for which she gained popularity.
